Really? I figured if it was outlawed in even the US that Canadian Customs outright laughs at your attempt to bring it up here. Having said that, I have absolutely no issues with any of the gun laws in Canada. They are common sense stuff, which is what I always advocated whenever the subject involved the US. So what if the magazine is limited; so what? Just means I take better care of my shooting accuracy when I want to do some practice. And I don't really like any modern firearm for civilian use these days. Too much plastic and not enough wood and metal but that is subject for a different discussion. |

A lot of the laws regarding importation are arms embargoes with China and Russia and stupid "anti-assault weapon" feature bans like bipods, pistol grips, 30rd magazines and barrel shrouds that literally have no effect on anything. Magazine size is irrelevant to any sort of firearm safety unless you're working with a malfunctioning fully automatic firearm or one with a free floating firing pin like Post-51' Sks. There's no unwritten rule that says you can't take your time to make the most accurate shots with a 30rd magazine. Most Canadian gun laws aren't common sense at all, by the way. Common sense laws would be things like "Don't shoot people unless it's in self defence" Not "Your magazines have to be pinned at 5rds and you have to use a bullet button because muh chilluns and criminals follow laws" Anyway here's my collection at it's peak. Most of the guns are sold or awaiting payment, I've still got 4 handguns and 3 rifles left for myself, though. Because my rifles were too large to fit all in the picture I had to split it in to 3 pics and some of the same guns appear in multiple pics. Many of them had other stuff that I had done to the rifles, but I left them all in restorable condition because nobody wants to buy a gun that someone's added a bunch of useless s*** to. (Bottom to top: 1967 Chinese SKS, MOLOT VEPR in 7.62x54mmR, Ruger Mini-Thirty, Some old .22LR Mauser action bolt gun think it was an old Marlin rifle, Smith and Wesson M&P Sport II AR-15, Mossberg 500, Ruger 10/22 Takedown, Ruger Mini-14, Sig Sauer 522) ![]() (Bottom to top: Smith and Wesson M&P Sport II AR-15, Mossberg 500, Ruger 10/22 Takedown, Ruger Mini-14, Ruger Gunsite Scout in .308, Ruger 10/22 non-takedown model) ![]() (bottom to top), Ruger 10/22Takedown , Ruger Mini-14, Ruger Gunsite Scout in .308, Ruger 10/22 non-takedown model, Kel-Tec SU-16C, Marlin 70PPS "Papoose". ![]() (Top left column, to bottom: R.I.A G.I 1911A1, Ruger SR1911, Gen 3 Glock 17, Sig Sauer P320 Full Sized in 9mm, Sig Sauer P320 Compact in 9mm) [Top right column to bottom: Ruger Single Six, Ruger GP100, Sig Sauer P226 in 9mm or .40 S&W, I forgot which one is which, and the last one is also a Sigsauer P226 but it's in either 9mm or .40 S&W, depending on the top one.) ![]() Currently I still have my VEPR, SKS, and AR-15 for rifles, and my 9mm P226, 9mm P320 Compact (I carry this gun on the daily and apart from my Mossberg 500 it's my only firearm that's always loaded, except in this pic cause gun safety and s***) and my full sized P320. I've got my Mossberg 500 as my primary home defense gun that I always talk about selling but I probably never will. It was my first gun and it's been used and abused and hasn't failed once. I think I've only cleaned and lubed it once as well, right before it became my designated home defense firearm. |

Still quite crazy anyway I see no need for anyone to carry semi-auto rifles around like that unless they are literally just taking them somewhere to go hunting or get it fixed etc etc (basically what you said further down)
This is what has never made sense to me, at least in states where you can open carry. In certain situations for sure a pistol can be more deadly than a rifle like if you suddenly whip it out in a store everyone there is f***ed whereas you'd be under watch were you wandering around with a rifle. I don't get that at all. Should all be the same if anything. If someone is going to use a weapon illegally they're probably going to go big and I'm pretty sure they do normally like that one infamous school shooting where the guy had a rifle and just went through the whole school. People like that are usually looking for a suicide by cop situation in the end so a pea shooter isn't likely to be on the menu. Not that they should be easier to get. Here in the UK we generally don't have much variety but we still have some decent powered stuff, shotguns and bolt action mostly. Even in a tiny s***ty town near me a shop has quite a few guns, they're not exactly common in the UK but not as rare as one might think either. I can't remember the last time I heard of someone using a shotgun or a rifle to murder someone around here. Comparatively there are a lot of stabbings here so maybe people are vastly more concerned with being caught and thus it's not so much of a mental illness thing? It's not often someone uses a gun they actually own for anything illegal here because they will most definitely be caught. Poaching is the only thing but people are relatively smart about that. Don't but a .308 and immediately do illegal s*** with it nearby. |

I think the reason the UK sees so many more (apparently) disportionate number of stabbings is the same as in places like Hong Kong: knives are more easily found and you can always get another one from someone's kitchen if the cops take it from you. Besides, while the UK does have less shootings, general violence used to tend to spike with controversial matchups in soccer. Whether it happens as much these days will need to be fielded by someone who knows far better than I. |

Yeeeah that's still a thing. I think there was quite a big fight surrounding that lately actually. Not as bad as it used to be years ago and it's more down in England I think, surprisingly us drunkard Scots don't seem to do it as much unless we go down to England. I think a lot of knife crime here is a spur of the moment sort of thing as well it's not like someone buying a gun with the intention of killing, it's often an answer to conflict such as people getting in a fight over a cheating partner. You're not allowed any blade over 3 inches long out in public so it's not common to have people going around with Bowie knives cutting people up. Guess it could be a money thing too like over there in the US if you want to shoot some people and don't care about dying you can just pawn a heap of stuff and get a gun easily but here they are quite expensive indeed. I have an air rifle and it alone was £300 including a scope and it'd probably be quite a challenge to kill a man with it. Pretty sure shotguns in the store were like £600 and up. Not many people have that sort of money to throw around even if they are happy to be gunned down. Edited by Steve, Jun 12 2016, 02:52 AM.
